Printmaking and Painter.
Maura lives in Victoria, B.C. with holiday visits to her summer home in Val Marie, Saskatchewan.
Maura Byrne is a master printmaker and painter whose early work acknowledges Irish Catholic roots, exposing dreams and mournful memories of childhood. Creating sparse black and white images, she exploits the ambiguity of dreams. Maura’s alla prima still life, portraits and landscapes capture everyday lives that can be full of lyricism and wit. Drawing upon her experience as a professional counsellor, Maura mentors those seeking to overcome creative blocks and engages in the search for meaning and purpose in life.
Maura is a past recipient of an Alberta Foundation for the Arts award whose work is found in permanent collections such as the International Global Print Biennial, Douro, Portugal; the Glenbow Museum, Calgary; Ostrava University, Czech Republic; and the Machida International Print Museum, Japan.
